When there is an abundance of overly accessorized, overly chromed, and just overly done cars in the Nissan community, how do you build a car that makes a strong statement, yet remains perfectly subtle and clean at the same time? Ask Karl T. of Manassas, Virginia. Karl’s silver G35 Coupe is the archetype of what a street driven car should be. With an ample amount of horsepower dressed a classy, simple presentation, makes for a win/win combination.
Almost immediately after the car was purchased, Karl had envisioned what he wanted his car to be. He wanted a car that could be driven daily; yet pack enough horsepower to help him get around quicker on the network of freeways surrounding our nation’s capital. In addition, Karl wanted to retain the graceful, flowing factory lines of the exterior of the G35, but give it a sportier stance in combination with an elegant set of aftermarket wheels. To help achieve his goal, Karl contacted local tuners Altered Atmosphere Motorsports, who have somewhat of a reputation for building turbocharged VQ35 engines that produce daunting amounts of horsepower.
After a short trip from his home in Virginia up to Altered Atmosphere’s location in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Karl had a more clear idea of the modification path he would take for his G35. A combination of performance parts were purchased including a Jim Wolf Technologies Twin turbo kit, ATS Clutch and Flywheel, a Turbosmart Forged Bypass/BOV Kit, Nissan 350Z UTEC Engine Management, a Koyo Racing Aluminum radiator, HKS Twin Power DLI II and an ARC Oil Catch pan, as well as a number of various custom AAM Build products including an a fully built AAM VQ35 Shortblock, AAM Fuel System, Billet Oil Pan Spacer, Oil Return Line Kit, full 3 inch true dual exhaust. Following the installation of all Karl’s parts and a tune by Altered Atmosphere’s owner and head tuner Mike Mahaffey, Karl’s G35 put down a amazing 550whp; more than enough power to move around town or to blast by those annoying drivers who do 10 miles under the speed limit on the highway.
Karl opted for the clean, “less is more” philosophy with his car, so he avoided any gaudy body kits, massive rear wings or excessive stickers and kept it simple by lowering the car with a TEIN Coilover setup and black 3 piece Work Meister S1 wheels. The color combination works perfectly for Karl’s car, and makes for one of the cleanest G35s in the Mid Atlantic region.
